Frequently asked questions

The reason why we see mould form and quickly get out of control is simply because mould spores are everywhere.

Around 25% of the earth’s biomass is made up of different types of mould and mould spores. These spores are microscopic and float in the air. Mould spores can be carried into a building on clothing or they can enter your home simply through a breeze.

Once in a building, mould needs the right conditions to grow – water, food (organic matter), suitable temperature and air.

Aside from a water intrusion event (such as flooding, leaking roofs, damaged pipes or hot water systems), the most common cause of mould growth is from humidity, in both summer and winter, which creates the ideal conditions for mould to grow.

Mould spores can be found in furnishings, plants and even food, such as bread and fruit, which has formed mould colonies.

We will treat and eradicate your mould issues, and will give you advice on ways to reduce excess moisture and humidity to help keep the mould at bay.

Microorganisms such as mould are so small and light (between 0.1 and 0.4 of a micron thick) that they can float for days and travel to other parts of the building undetected.

Mould spores easily circulate from one area to another with normal air movement and can be carried on clothing. Given the right conditions, the mould spores will form new colonies resulting in active mould growth throughout the building.

If there is an infestation in one area of the building then the mould spores generated are likely to be right throughout the building. This is why we ‘fog’ the whole building as part of the treatment process, to ensure we treat all spores in the containment area.

Mould can release large quantities of spore that can have serious effects on your health. The effects vary according to the sensitivity of the person, but can include:

  • Hay fever
  • Water and itchy eyes
  • Sinus issues
  • Migraines and headaches
  • Respiratory problems / breathing difficulties
  • Tiredness
  • Flu like symptoms
  • Coughs and sore throats
  • Rashes
  • Other allergic reactions

But the most dangerous thing about mould is that some release a deadly toxin known as Mycotoxins which can pose serious health issues including neurological problems.

Mould problems need to be professionally treated to eliminate all mould spores, which are undetectable to the human eye, present in a building.
